PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS:

Adult Learners:

Yes life is busy. It is your responsibility to carve out time in your schedule to do your practice.

I suggest 30 minutes in the morning as soon as you’re out of bed or make it the last thing you do at night as personal time for yourself after family has gone to bed.

Singers: Practicing while driving is useful for some aspects of development but please make sure you get enough deliberate practice time as well. No playing guitar, piano, drums while you sing; just singing. This leaves your brain processing room to really focus on learning the new skill at hand.

A tip to be a better bandmate: band rehearsal time is not practice time. Make sure you know your material before getting together with your band. And no, band practice and shows do not count as your personal practice time, either.

A Note to Parents:

I will conclude our lessons about 5 minutes early to run through everything we have covered in the lesson with you. Not only does this keep me and the student accountable but it involves you in your child's learning. This information will equip you with tasks to focus on during the child's practice throughout the week.

It is the responsibility of parents to ensure their children are setting up and sticking to a regular practice routine to get the most from their lessons.

I suggest starting with short practice sessions three times a week at the start and as the student becomes more proficient, practice frequency and duration can be increased.

Three times a week is satisfactory to maintain the skills we have learned in our lessons. Anything above and beyond will expedite their learning.

If practice is not done each week, please understand progress will be reduced.

Practice Duration Guidelines:

5 -8 years of age - 10 minutes per practice session

Students 8-11 - 15-20 minutes per practice session.

Students 12+ - minimum of 30 minutes per session.
